What Even IS Parallel EQ??

In mixing, I'm one of those people who think that if it gets the job done, it's the right thing to do. Some processing can cause phasing, some isn't technically "true" to the original sound (I'm looking at you, drum sample replacement). But if it gets the track where it needs to go, I'm all for it!

Check out how I use Parallel EQ on a bus to help a mix move a little more, and stop it from being so static.

Wow. What a simple idea... 💡 that I never freaking thought of!
I will definitely be using this on my next mix!

These are great ideas, Sam. Although in Logic, perhaps I might actually prefer riding the EQ automation on the track itself, simply because this does not add yet another fader in the mixer window. I am currently mixing a huge rock song with an extreme number of tracks, and the fact that the on-track track automation DOES NOT create yet another fader in the mixer is kind of a blessing to me. But this is just practicality, and does not change the core value of your message. Thanks for yet another great video.

I had no idea what this was. Thank you

Cool idea but wouldnt an eq boost lift up the gain as well? Automating saturation on the top end would be safer option gain wise.

some thoughts that crossed my mind : phasing aside, automate the gain of the bands where you want the effect on the chorus doesn't achieve the same result with less processing ? And depending on the case using a linear/minimal phase eq also eliminate the phasing problem?
