That's the fourth and probably last souvenir picking. This time it's a very cool cross-lock in a steering wheel lock that I got from a flea-market.

great vid mate. we call your car in the UK Astra I had one SRI. they crap in the wet. but great drives. getting back to the lock. They used them in the 90s when car crime was really bad. and you seen these locks all over the place. now you hardy see them anymore. Now all cars have transponders.

Theses locks were very popular in the US in the 1990's not so much anymore, although you see them once in awhile.

Verry cool Potti! I really enjoyed all your souvenir picking videos. I also tend to visit locksmiths while I'm traveling. If not to get locks, I always love seeing some of their inventory and advertisements. I also love seeing what they have for high security locks, or locks with sidebars.

In the early 1970's, the Australian Govt made steering locks mandatory. This of course just made car thieves target cars sold before the new law came into effect. So some importer started selling steering wheel locks just like the one shown in this video. One day I got a call from my girlfriend. She had lost her key. Upon inspecting the lock, I couldn't see how it could be easily picked so I put the driver's seat well back, my feet on the steering wheel and got a firm grip on the lock. I pulled hard and broke it - it wasn't actually that difficult - didn't do the slightest damage to the steering wheel. After a few months, the consumer protection authority made the importer cease sales and refund all purchasers, as car thieves were all doing what I did.

Nicely done Michael. I made a great cruciform rake key and just need to try it on more locks. Notice your car is an Opel... My first car was an Opel Kedett 1300 sport

Hooray for new experiences! :) Although, you may have been better off buying some fleas to protect your car. ;)

Just don't keep the key with the carkey, as almost all cars are stolen, by using stolen keys. And the Opel immobilizer (Wegfahrsperre) is harder to bypass than your nice little crosslock. Don't you have any ZeissIkon cross locks in your collection ?

A very cool souvenir for me - the first cross lock (12 pins) and a big junk of metal that has a real application (although a bit outdated).

Great lock! I have never seen one of these locks on a steering wheel lock. I wonder if a cross lock pick would work on it? :-)

Por que no lo abres puesto en el volante, en una mesa es mas facil de abrir, ponlo en el coche y intenta abrirlo.
Un saludo amigo

This lock is defeated by cutting the steering wheel with a hacksaw
