“I wish you were cold or hot, but because you are lukewarm I will vomit you out of my mouth.” Why does Jesus love extreme temperatures? WARNING: Being "cold" isn't a metaphor for making a clear decision to reject Jesus.

The Bible is a Middle Eastern document, so it should be interpreted as such, knowing the history, language, and people of it. Most pastors go to school to learn this, yet fail to teach it to the rest of us, or go along with the Western mindset of interpretation. Keep up the good work and may Father Yah bless you.

Amen I love this. This is only the second time I've ever heard this correct interpretation of this very puzzling scripture. Perhaps the Layman Christian has the misunderstanding and thus confused why would Jesus want me cold and out of his will and ways? No no, he wants us either hot and on fire for him or cold and refreshing for him. This is excellent thank you.

Just noticed that the L in Laodicea is for lukewarm. The C in Colossae stands for cold water and Hierapolis stands for hot water. Jesus is so clever!

I’ve come across this quote in the movie..Gangs of New York and in the novel Blood Meridian.. I had no idea where it came from until a distant memory of Sunday school or church came to me. It seems there are many interpretations however, like most readings from the Bible

I was once totally against God to the point of demonic possession to work with Satan against God, attempted suicide so i could prove God isn't as loving as He claims to be that He would give me the punishment in hell that i deserve, and attempted suicide multiple times.
Yet God had overridden the logic of what would easily have killed any human to let me live to save me.
After showing His grace, love and mercy, i had become persuade that He actually wasn't what i thought He was from what the demons had convinced to believe He was.

After some time i was saved.
I became on fire for God,
Totally for Him and against Satan as if it all backfired against Satan and the demons with what they intended to do through me.

I understand this scripture quite well from that experience after seeing how many people in this world claim to be Christian, yet live like the world and want the things of the world and act like they're living for God and that's how they got what they wanted.
They are lukewarm, negotiating just enough to get what they want from the world and expecting to enter the kingdom to escape the punishment they deserve in hell when they die.
But I'd rather receive my punishment or God save me, and He chose to save me instead though i was willing to accept my punishment!

There was an article on a site that explained this scripture with your video. It earned you a subscription. However, I'd love it if you got an actual voice actor to explain things. May you improve, in Jesus name, Amen.

To add this

To the Church in Laodicea

14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither "cold nor hot". I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious I and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

See this..

Are we honoring God in things we do are we do stupid thing that is not honoring him?

Fear God and Love God either one of this.

God knows our deeds he is watching

His righteousness cannot be seen in you

Seek his righteousness and apply

Do not harden your Heart

It said whom I love I rebuke and deciple

Etc....

I don't think being cold particulary pertains to hating God, it could also mean really not having a knowledge of who God is at all and this also leads me to these passages in 2 Peter 2:20-21, 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them

Seemed like it's supporting the interpretation we first thought was wrong. I would appreciate a reply thank you. 🙂

Yup, I use to believe the first interpretation until I gained context

Cold ice tea, cold water on a hot day. A cold drink on a hot day. Next time you have guests over try serving them luke warm coffee or tea. Or give a child warm water when they are heated from playing sports. It doesn't make sense right? Hot is good and useful . Cold is good and useful. The luke warm water in the area Jesus is speaking to was terrible to drink due to its calcium carbonate content. You will understand scripture better IF you also study the context of where and who Jesus was relating the message to. Hot and cold in 2:15 the context were both GOOD.

Okay but what about the “spew thee out of my mouth” bit? Does that mean saved people can still go to hell if they aren’t acting right? Thanks

God is not saying to live in disobedience, he is saying either you serve me with all your heart or don’t serve me at all. That’s why the Bible says no man can serve two masters, and to love God will all your heart soul and mind. This interpretation makes no sense. If being “hot” is a good thing, and being “cold” is a good thing, then why would God spit out someone with both, since that’s what being lukewarm means? That’s because being cold is NOT a good thing, being cold is being a heathen. He is saying I’d much rather you not serve me at all then to try and serve me while being in the world. That’s why he says in Luke 12 that he who doesn’t know the will of God and sins will be beaten with few stripes, but he who knows the will of God and still sins will be beaten with MANY stripes. God honors an unbeliever who chooses to live for himself a lot more than someone who lies and claims they believe, but still lives like an unbeliever. That’s why he said “CHOOSE this day whom you will serve”. Remember what Peter says in 2 Peter 2:21 (he is talking about those who claim to believe but still haven’t converted from their life in the world)-“For it would have been *BETTER* for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.” God would much rather you be real with your unbelief then to try and play fake with him. Serve him with all your heart or don’t serve him at all.
