Snap crackle pop: ASMR and misophonia

preview_player
Показать описание
This video examines the disorder known as misophonia where certain trigger sounds evoke physical or emotional responses such as muscle tension and anger. In the opening scenes, the video presents the popular topic of autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR), where a tingling sensation is felt in the body due to auditory or visual stimuli. To display both sets of reactions, a youtube react portion is incorporated within the video, where participants show the reactions of individuals who either experience ASMR videos positively or negatively. The diagnostic criteria of misophonia are then explained along with some neurological differences between individuals with and without misophonia.

This video was made by McMaster Demystifying Medicine students Ripley Antonacci, Sehar Arfeen, Monica Chu and Sabrin Salim.

I have misophonia, i actually started watching asmr a long time ago to get better at handling it, i actually enjoy asmr but i steer away from eating videos. I found it quite ironic that im able to handle some noises in a video but i can't handle it when its out of a video.

The crazy thing is i have misophonia and it really controlls my life and limits me, BUT i find all kind of ASMR extremelly relaxing. This is something that has always been interesting to me.

I’m not diagnosed with misophonia, but I’ve always been thinking that I have it. For some reason it only triggers me when it is in real life. I actually like asmr mouth sounds and whispering when I watch it on YouTube, but if I hear it in real life it makes me wanna cry and punch the person in the face.. can someone relate to this?

I suffer from Misophonia and sometimes it's no fun at all. ESPECIALLY when something AMSR comes on. For some reason, those sounds absolutely torture me, and the effect is immediate. I feel like smashing the TV/computer screen to make it stop. I honestly wish that AMSR TV commercials came with a warning, or were banned outright. Of course, that would be ridiculous, but I don't ever want to feel that way again. It's cool to know that there are other out there (and here) that know what I'm talking about. Btw, after reading some comments here, there's no way that I'm watching this video

My mom makes me sit at the table while she's eating and won't let me leave until she's done. My brother is free to leave, but not me. I swear she chews louder on purpose just to bother me, (It really, Reeaallyy does.) She tells me that I'm just a spoiled brat and that if I can't learn coping skills then I'm going to be a useless adult with no friends and no life. I'm trying to deal with it the best I can, but my brother teases me about it and my mom is making things way worse. I'm worried that I'll ruin any realashionships I have due to this stupid condition. I really just want to be able to spend time with my friends and family without feeling extremely uncomfortable.

I have ASMR and misophonia. I cannot stand that ASM R videos that have smacking, tapping, mouth noises of some sort etc. I like soft pencil writing especially on hard surfaces. Some pen writing. I don't like writing super fast. I also like coloring. Way to many people are making videos for ASMR with those sounds.

For me it depends on the sound. I actually really enjoy crackling and crunching sounds or harsh textured noises like breaking soap or cracking egg shells. However, I really don’t like whispering or low voices - it makes me very anxious/uncomfortable especially hard consonant sounds like g or st where the mic pops slightly.

I might be misophonic. Otherwise a have a similar condition that made me irrationally afraid of certain noises. However those sounds never triggered anger or anxiety but sadness and discontent. There's one song I still find unpleasant 4 no reason but I'm no longer afraid of it but still try to avoid it if necessary.

I might have this but my difference is that the triggering sounds dont make me angry or anxious it makes me feel like someone keeps jabbing my lower right side of my back with their finger and it tickles me like crazy...

Im not ticklish at all unless i hear certain sounds.

Extremely interesting. The two girls had strong reactions in opposite directions and I have no reaction (male). I do get ASMR sometimes but's almost always in real life and triggered by behaviors rather than sounds. The behaviors that trigger it are usually in the realm of public displays of vulnerability and sweetness.
