How tariffs could impact price of Nintendo Switch 2 console

Nintendo’s release of the highly anticipated Switch 2 console is set for June 5. But the company paused pre-orders “to assess the potential impact” of President Trump’s tariffs. NBC News’ Tom Llamas reports the consoles are produced in China and Vietnam, which are both facing substantial new tariffs.

If this is the case then many wont pay for this switch. Switch is already at $450-$500 and that's not counting taxes with the tariffs it could go up $700 like Australia

Switch 2 aside, considering like 90% of toys are manufactured in China, if they get affected by tariffs, that’s when the kids will cry, and parents, no matter their leaning, will truly wake up to what’s going on.

Not sure how people understand how tariffs work but here you go: Let's say Nintendo wanted to charge $300 for the Switch 2 that is made in China and then the US puts a 104% tariff on China. That'll make the make the Switch 2 about $600, where Nintendo makes $288 now and the US government gets $312 in taxes (the tariff). So consumers pay double and Nintendo still makes less than with zero tariff. So the tariff is a sales tax effectively, don't get made at Nintendo for the government putting a 104% sales tax on there product... You can say, well Japan should make Switch 2 in America, but they sell it worldwide and we don't have the skilled labor to manufacture them anyway.

It'd look pretty bad for Nintendo to raise US pricing, since they already have almost 800, 000 Switch 2's in the US that weren't tariffed.
