In 1992, just as production of Alfa Romeo’s limited edition SZ was drawing to a close, the company introduced an al fresco version – the three-litre V6-engined RZ Roadster Zagato. Although an obvious spin-off from the SZ – which was nicknamed ‘The Monster’ – only the front fenders and boot lid are the same. On both variants, the body panels are a composite of thermoplastic resin reinforced with glass fibre.

Inside, there are a few detail differences but the driving sensation is no less enthralling. Only 278 roadsters left the factory and, like the SZ, the RZ was sold and distributed outside Italy by enthusiasts and specialists.
