What? The Commonwealth of Liberia was an American colony. It's original name was the Colony of Liberia. Most of the American black people sent to Liberia weren't even from that region, they were just whatever black people wanted to go there. Americo-Liberians ruled over the native people and put them to work on plantations similar to the ones they worked on in America. Americo-Liberians remained in power from 1822 all the way until 1980, making Liberia one of the last African countries to decolonize itself.
