I'm one of those crazy people with a at least one computer in every room in the house. I was inspired by Hardware Haven's video about these HP Mini PCs and wanted to share my experience upgrading many of the computers in my house. Be sure to check out his video (and music) in the links below!

One additional thing to note is that a lot of third party power supplies for Dell HP and Lenovo mini PC's may not work. As most of these brands have implemented a sensor check to see if your using a branded power supply from them. A small circuit within the PS provides a signal to the these PC's, this is important as if these PC's don't receive that signal the will throttle the CPU. I experienced this first hand with some Dell Micros I got, wasted time buying PSU's from Amazon and returning them before getting a some OEM ones from Dell. I have seen some hacks done to recreate this signal and also you can use software throttlestop etc to get around it, however this is not persistent and needs to be redone after every boot. These brands have also applied similar to there laptops. My I5 7th gen Micros were throttled to 800Mhz and shows so in Bios, I was shocked. I will declare i worked for one of these major OEM for a large portion of my 30 year career to date. I do like the MicroPC's they are great for many applications for homelab, firewalls, servers, CCTV, etc etc. Try to get ones 8gen and above to avoid Win11 compatibility issues if you want to run Windows that is, there are workaround for that also. Repurposing these things is very satisfying and fun.

I like the 1L PC form factor, though I'm not a fan of HP using proprietary expansion rather than the PCIe slot that Dell and Lenovo use.

I wish more smaller OEMs would use a socketed CPU in their mini PCs.

one neat thing you can do with mini-pc's that are missing power supplies is get a type-c to barrel jack converter if you have a USB-C PD power supply. it's even better if you're running multiple close together cause then you can get a grunty GaN charger and power multiple off of it instead of having multiple power bricks.

I have a 300w GaN Power Supply I use for my router mini-pc and laptops

Neat. I only use 2 PCs. One for almost everything and I got a 16 gb orange pi pro for video streaming and some light gaming on my living room tv. Both uses Debian Linux. I don't do most the fancy stuff you do so Linux is always fine for me!

I have a dozen of the little G3s and you don’t need the HDMI card for it. You can use the DP to HDMI cable, they’re around $10-$15. I love the little machines, most of mine a i3 7100T CPUs. My friends and I play some older games at LAN parties and they’re perfect. There are Prodesk minis as well, although I’m not sure what difference there is to be honest, but the Elitedesk is HP’s top end in all 3 sizes: mini, SFF, and tower.

Good video and unless you have a computer at the toilet(s) I do not consider you crazy 😉 A few games and SW I like to play/use is the the main reason that I did not fully transfer to a Linux distro (I really like Manjaro and Mint)

I've wanted one the b350 ones with like ryzen 3600(swapped in) or least one the 6700t and one the rx 470/480 4gb they made for these could get for 60$ for a while and bigger power supply for thing but never did it. Only some models have the gpu port for proprietary rx 470 or 480 4gb

I have a HP T640 as a media PC. Powerful enough for my needs and completely fanless!

Music is unnecessary and horribly distracting. Your voice becomes background noise way too often for anyone with even the slightest tinnitus. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary. Music is unnecessary.
Make it a mantra. Everyone making videos should make it a mantra. It serves no purpose whatsoever other than to distract. Unless the video is actually about music, there shouldn't be any.
I couldn't get past 2 minutes in this video because trying to understand what you were saying was too difficult.
