The nominations for The Game Awards GOTY are in and controversy broke out immediately around one entry in particular. The PS5 Pro has received patches in many games, but it looks like some of those enhancements are actually doing the opposite.

Next year we'll see the Elden Ring GOTY edition up for game of the year.

DLC is downloadable content, not a full game. To get nominated for Game of the Year, the highest prestigious award just doesnt seem right.

On Metacritic, the ‘Future Redeemed’ DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was rated 6th best of any games/DLC in 2023, yet it received no nominations at last year’s Game Awards. DLC/Expansions shouldn’t be in the Game of The Year category, but great work such as SotE and Future Redeemed deserve to be rewarded in a separate category

I'm just gonna ignore the game awards this year. Last year was so bad and clearly just a feature length commercial, no respect for any of the artists. It's clear how corporate it is this year, so enjoy it if you want but I'm done.

Its also a little suspicious that Star Wars Outlaws has nominations in like half a dozen categories, despite being so buggy and lackluster that Ubisoft openly admitted its poor performace was the deciding factor in delaying Assassin's Creed.

There is already best ongoing game, which is where Cyberpunk landed last year. They have dozens of categories. Maybe DLC of the Year should just be a new category

They already have a category for dlc. It's called 'Best Ongoing Game'.
"Awarded to a game for outstanding development of ongoing content that evolves the player experience over time.".

Since I found out that the votes of us gamers only have a 10% influence on the election, this show has become absolutely meaningless to me. If you look at the jury, it should be clear to you WHO this event is actually intended for.

Trying to trademark the "Game Awards" is not a good move either, no different from TheFineBros trying to trademark the word "React", trying to monopolize such a broad term is definitely not something you'd do to help gaming or gamers but to line your own pockets.

The awards are a joke and mainstream game journalism is largely unethical. Obviously dlc isn't a game. Obviously a remaster shouldn't be eligible. These are the common sense takes you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who disagrees with.
