China, like much of Asia, is undergoing an international education boom, with huge demand for English schools, language centers and international schools. This education boom has resulted in a thousands of vacancies for foreign language teachers to provide English language instruction.
Demand for western English teacher for outstrips supply, making it relatively easy for foreigners with university degrees to be employed as English teachers. This enables individuals who do not have teacher training experience or have not studied education theory to become teachers. Often the only teaching certification that Chinese schools require is TEFL certification, which can usually be completed in 3-4 weeks.
