This car made me want to STOP DRIVING IT! Kia Seltos 2023 review

I loved the pre-facelift Seltos, and there are things about the updated model that are great. But there's one thing that I hated...

Sometimes safety tech enhancements are things that should be applauded. But when they're as frustrating as the safety tech system fitted to the Kia Seltos 2023 model range, it's enough to make you wish for the good old days.

You'll see what gets my goat so badly if you watch the video, and it's a real shame because the Kia Seltos, otherwise, is a terrific compact crossover.

With a great interior and clever packaging, two good powertrains available, long warranty cover and plenty more going for it, the Seltos is still one of the better options in the small SUV segment.

Am I the only one who thinks the corolla cross is one of the ugliest cars on sale? I quite like the look of the corolla but the cross looks horrible. They did such a good job with the yaris cross

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Matt, for calling out the stupid annoying self-righteous speed limit monitoring system on Kia/Hyundai @ 9:23!

In fact, throw in the equally stupid intrusive and unsafe lane keeping assist, these are the worst tech in Kia/Hyundai, at least the worst calibrated. The fact that you cannot turn them off (ANCAP regulation?) or easily adjusted is a total deal breaker. It was the reason I sold my 22 Tucson. No way I’ll be buying another Kia/Hyundai until they get these tech sorted.

Thanks mate for calling this out, feels like these are not being called out enough by reviewers. Love your work.

I'm planning to buy a new car and your reviews are what I always find helpful. The way you deliver each car's unique description is excellent. I enjoy very much listening to you as you talk. Keep it up!

Wow!!! 9.5L/100km is a shocking surprise for me. I ordered a Kia Seltos Sport+ last year, but I cancelled the order back in May-2023 because Kia dealership told me that my order hasn't even started production yet.
I ended up buying the Nissan Qashqai 2023 ST-L in end May-2023. I watched your review on the qashqai too. Good review. Although my 'real-world' fuel consumption was about 8.7L/100km because my area is rather hilly.

That speech limit detection would turn me off, too. Great review, Matt.

Agree with you on a lot of your points. Test drove one and the speed sign detection was driving me crazy. It was detecting 40 in a school zone but it was outside school hours so was going mental when I was going 60.

I’d be interested in seeing a review from you in the Skoda Kamiq. It’s what I ended up going for. It was a much more enjoyable drive, has wireless CarPlay and wireless Charing plus the fuel economy was much better.

Is it possible for you to make a comparison video between kia seltos and sportage? I am kind of confused about which car will be more valuable in terms of different aspects 😊

Guessing you already know, but no fuel consumption figures made it to the screen at 10:27.
Great video. Thanks

Hmm making me second guess my car pick. I was looking at the s model seltos as It'll be my first new car. I'm used to driving a 2001 Ute with 0 bells and whistles, so I don't need many fancy features. Just want a "small" car that can fit my greyhound comfortably. I'll definitely take it for a spin and get a feel for it!

You have the corrolla X a plug which doesn't need any air time as it's unavailable, unless your prepared to wait up to 2 year's and a certain percentage of buyers use them a s a mechanism to generate a profit flipper /scalpers should have given the Havel jolion hyb a mention it's competitive pricesd, it's available and look at the mechanical specs it sits all over the corrolla cross and before anyone bangs on about Toyota reliability the Havel isn't going back to the dealer in droves

Hey Matt. I have the original Sports + and after paying just on $34k for my 2019 the moment they were released, and driving it for the last 3 years, at that stage I couldn’t have justified the GT Line for a sun roof and BOSE and just the same I couldn’t justify the extra costs on upgraded Sports+!

The variant I purchased was by far the best value and ooooft what a beautiful looking car on the road also.

Am now looking at a GT Sportage though! 😅

If you want 1.6L Turbo, only option is Sport+ or GT-Line in AWD... Can't we take 1.6L Turbo on 2WD like Korean domestic version?

Matt, I hope your channel is successful but for heaven's sake please ditch that annoying "demented mosquito" noise between segments! Re the speed alert beeping, I recall another reviewer pointing out that if you press and hold one of the buttons for a few seconds it provides a direct short-cut to the screen for switching it off. Hope that helps. For me, the deal-breaker is the omission for Australia of the 360 degree camera available in some markets (which also provides blind-spot camera coverage when you press the turn indicators). As I'm past family-rearing age, that omission makes the Mazda CX-30 a more attractive proposition for me.
