I grew up in Thailand, I was watching top players over the years. I learned a lot from it. I played in a national team here in USA. I stopped playing in 2003, I won many trophies in 16 years of playing. It take years of practicing. It's fast pace sport, it's fun and could be dangerous too. I seen people got broken arm, ankle and cuts & bleeding from it. But that's because we played street game which is different from professional game. You should see more street games when they play one on one or 1 on 3. It's crazy fast and powerful. Nice overview though...

It was came from ancient Kingdoms on Southeast Asia. It usually played by army of those kingdoms whenever they met. That's why this sport is so intense, coz it was the sport for the Kingdom's armies (they who expert in martial arts).

Malaysian play this since ancient time. previously called Sepak Raga before adding thai name in, which is "takraw". it then expands to the entire south east asia. yes, it absolutely hardcore.

Sepak takraw/Sepak Raga is originated by Malay world in Asean.

Sepak Takraw was introduced as an official sport in Southeast and other parts of Asia in 1960 but variations of the sports already existed and part of the culture for a long time in Malay nations in Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and etc. Her in the Philippines our version is called Sipa.

Sepak Takraw is a traditional game in Malaysia and a few other Asian countries. Those players been practicing since young age. Even the non professional players are skillful.

In our country, we used to get a coconut shell, hang into mango tree and do bicycle kick or rolling kick again and again....

The ball is legit hard. As in hard like a piece of wood. Traditionally it's made from bamboo so just imagine a wooden ball slamming to your legs.

I played this game during our PE ours when i was in elementary school we also made the ball with coconut leaves as our project 😁😁😁

One thing the general viewers doesn't realize is the most important skill in ST isn't how high your legs can go to kick the ball, it's how you recover from those skills and back to your position. It's similar to Badminton where top players are usually defined by how fast they recover after a smash.

I have *try* to play sepak takraw but honestly it's very hard especially when ur newbie againts a guy who can make a spin with their legs.. I got hit twice in the face
