Intro to Philosophy: The Socratic Method

This week we reflect on the spirit and mission of philosophy, as well as the Socratic method.

I am often naturally of the engineering type mind and understand (no saying I agree with them) that engineer types that write off philosophy. They will say well I want clear answers that I can prove with evidence that shows that x and y lead to z. But really what philosophy does is teach you how to think and examine questions. Its very clear for example in the area of AI were there is a merging of these 2 areas of study that philosophers really are much more concise when they debate with engineers. They language they use and the questions they ask have shown they really have thought about the issues involved. I am always glad to see them on any panel.

I have used nicks including gadfly for a long time, and I cant tell you how many people tell me I must be a troll because the laymans definition that it merely means one who annoys. Even after I try and explain its origins with soctates and how he annoyed with questions of truth that people are afraid to ask themselves trying to get them to think they still dont get that distinction,

Says the Socratic method is essentially starting with a conclusion about something and then either questioning or have someone question it to death?
