I had a Laotian friend in summer camp some decades ago named Ian. I made him laugh so hard one time I end of running across the room and back. When he came to he said dude WTF you're teleporting. I said what? He said when he laughs he's essentially blind.

I have a neuromuscular condition called myasthenia that causes drooping eyelids. Somehow no one questioned it my entire life! I actually have a very severe case where I'm lucky to be alive, too. All my other symptoms were just dismissed as a combination of laziness and anxiety.
(I'm white, but everyone just assumed I'm not expressive, even though the rest of my face will make somewhat theatrical exaggerated expressions, which itself is a symptom because muscles that work better will overcompensate for the near or fully paralyzed ones)

I have nocturnal lagophthalamus, which is when your eyes don't stay closed when you're sleeping. And apparently my entire family knew and none of them told me until I brought it up after my college roommates noticed!

Yeah the eyelid surgery some asian women get for cosmetic purposes was actually developed to help people with this condition (like breast augmentation was invented for cancer patients). So you can totally have this fixed and it may be covered by insurance. If you go to Asia for it it will be way cheaper than in the US, since it is a well known procedure there.

I will never forget when I was three. I told the girl to open her eyes all the way I didn’t know that she couldn’t do it and now every day I look back on that event and I feel so bad.

A classmate in high school has this, he’s eyelids were so paralysed that he got detention for “sleeping” in class, even tho he was wide awake.
