Tariffs is used to protect US industry (sometime called infant industry protection) this is to help “new” US companies to compete; however, there is no “new” industry in the US today maybe - electronic fabs - compete to TMSC but we have intel who the one invented the industry and now loss it’s way to Taiwan, so increase tariffs to 20% only hurt US consumers.
