One of the most significant political changes during the period 1450-1648 is the rise of new monarchs. They new because in the prior period, monarchs shared power with the church and the nobility, but in this period, monarchs began growing in influence by consolidating power underneath themselves and away from the nobility and church. Significant new monarchs include Henry VIII, Mary Tudor, and Elizabeth I of England, Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, and Francis I of France.
