Do you struggle with sensory changes such as numbness, tingling, burning, or pins & needles?🤔
Did you know that sensory changes and motor changes are DIFFERENT parts of your nerve being affected, and actually require DIFFERENT forms of therapy?!🤯

At each spinal segment there are 2 different types of nerves!
1️⃣ a Motor nerve
2️⃣ a Sensory nerve

When the motor nerve is affected that’s when you have challenges such as weakness, poor balance, and difficulty walking. When you notice these changes, this is when you’d want to use strengthening, and balance training!💪🏻

When the sensory nerve is affected that’s when you’ll notice sensory changes such as numbness, tingling, pins & needles, etc. When you are experiencing these symptoms, this is when you would want to do desensitization exercises.✨

So, if you have ever wondered why your strengthening exercises are not helping your sensory changes, it’s because they are on different neural pathways! And require different forms of therapy.🙌🏻

Do you have a bigger challenge with motor symptoms? Sensory symptoms? Or both? COMMENT BELOW🧡

what is de-sensory exercise?? Have had MS for 11 years and no one has ever told me about this! Thanks for the knowledge. Do you have any YouTube videos about this?

I have suffered from sensory nerve issues in my neck for over 20 years. My arms ache down the outside edge to my pinky’s and my hands go numb and tingle at times Physical therapy uses a tens unit and hot and cold packs at times. It’s gotten to the point now that the entire upper left shoulder blade area basically feels numb when it’s touched. Was told that was normal because my body developed a tolerance to touch because I had a phantom itch that I scratched a lot. They can’t tell me where it comes from or why Itch is still there yet can’t really get relief because the area is numb.

Thank You DrGretchen, wondering what you suggest if both areas are affected?

I don’t think this is entirely correct. My difficulty walking is actually caused by sensory nerve impairment, which means that my brain doesn’t get the feedback from my leg to tell it that my leg is functioning better than I feel it does.
