How to replace the dash clock in a 1st gen Honda CRV 1997-2001

If you'd rather repair your dead CRV (first-gen) clock than replace it, you can do it for free if you have a soldering iron. These fail because of so-called 'cold' solder joints that crack, and then lose the ability to conduct conduct current; this is a manufacturing issues with these clocks and is a very common failure.

Remove your clock, as shown in this video, then open up the clock housing, add a *small* amount of solder flux (I use a little on the end of a Q-Tip for this; this helps to prevent those darn cold solder joints), and then heat and reflow the solder on each solder joint with your soldering iron. Once you do this, your clock will work again. It is a little tight inside the clock so it takes a some patience, but it can be done easily enough (that's how I repaired mine).

I am actually watching this video not to replace the clock with a new one but I'm going to build a small three-way USB charging port and install it where the clock used to be. I live in my first generation Honda CRV and overlanding and building over Landing vehicles has been my life. Thanks for the good video on this subject

I have a 97 crv that has never had a clock. I love my car and it was garage kept for 14 years of its over 20 year life. Anyway I want to install a clock I bought a used one off eBay and am learning my CR-V may not have a pigtail for the clock. Any suggestions if you know about this situation are much appreciated.
