New and more dangerous people-smuggling routes to Europe have led to a spike in the number of refugees losing their lives as they attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

The International organization for Migration estimates that almost 3,000 people have died making the journey in the first six months of 2016.

An increasing number of those that have made it to Greece are children and many are suffering from poor health conditions as the camps are overcrowded.
