01 'Hello' - ELO Part II

A neat little opening track. Sounds a little Beatlesque to me.

In 1988 Bev Bevan, the lifelong drummer of the band ELO, asked Jeff Lynn asking to make another ELO album. Jeff Lynn said no, so in 1989 Bev Bevan recreated ELO without Jeff Lynn under the name ELO Part II. In 1991 the group released a self-named album, Electric Light Orchestra Part II, that attempted to get back to the early/mid 70s ELO sound with mixed success.

Funny this songs is very similar
to For No One by the Beatles in some in parts.

Jeff Lynn was influenced greatly by the Beatles early on in ELO's career, and this album is meant to be a kickback to that early/mid ELO sound. Not too surprising.

This is a good song but it's too short and sounds too much like MIDI instruments

Yes it does sound Beatlesque. A friend of mine thinks so too.

Haven't missed much then over the years with ELO pt II. Much prefer the album ELO 2 side II instead. This album is a bit musically muddled, not grounded anywhere with a few tracks just going round & round & up it's own backside.

Got to the 5th track, couldn't go any further, no it's not my bag. I'll stick to the proper ELO. They tried and they wanted to carry on with the camaraderie & the showbiz which is commendable but it never really went anywhere for me.
In 1988 even ELO was in a bit of a decline after the Balance of Power album, it was ok but Jeff had mostly done it all by then, he'd had about enough of it, wanting to concentrate on being more of a music producer with the kudos of being a successful artist.
Maybe Jeff 'could' have done a full ELO album again just as Bev wanted, but on the proviso that it would not be released for 30 years. All kept under wraps until then, no teasers either. We'd have just heard it last year in 2018. That's how some artists slip up, doing it all for the moment not thinking ahead, creating some anticipation.

Bet even Jeff now wishes he'd have done another dedicated ELO album in 1988. Even calling the album '30 Years', giving the fans something to whittle their *r**s about in the mean time. Would have fitted in nicely with his resurgence.

Oh no...not another Rutles wannabeeband. 🙂

Not a big fan of ELO Part 2. If you want to hear a better ELO/Beatles type band check out the video for the song "Hello Hello Hello" by the band New England! A much better song and a much better band! Also, check out their songs Don't Ever Wanna Lose You, Encore, The Last Show, and the prog-rock masterpiece "Explorer Suite".

What a cute attempt at replacing Jeff Lynne’s Classic Mr Blue Sky

Could be a very nice song (I like the harmony), but it's too short and looks like an unfinished demo. A pointlessly complex composition for just such a 'welcome' piece.
