Discover Moldova and Moldovan wines with us! We spent a week in Moldova to visit wineries and taste the best of what Moldova Wine Country has to offer. Moldova is 33,800 sq km in size with a population of 3.5 million, so it's quite a small country. We were based in the capital city Chișinău during our entire trip and were able to make day trips to all of the wine regions. Besides the official language Moldovan/Romanian, French and Russian are also spoken by some people in Moldova. So how are the food, wine, and people of Moldova like? What is it like to do wine tourism in Moldova? Watch this video to find out.

Thank you for visiting our country. I am an American who moved to Moldova two and a half years ago. My wife and I live in a village home where we grow our own crops, raise our own chickens, pick our own fruit, gather our own nuts and berries, and MAKE OUR OWN WINE. It's a simple life filled with simple pleasures. I love it. (By the way, I work at Castel Mimi winery as a tour guide).

While I'm sure wines from Chateau Purcari are excellent (never tried one), I like 3 wines from Storks winery. Their cab, pinot noir and merlot wines are fab, especially their QPR. Other Moldovan stuff hasn't failed to impress either. Thanks for covering this much overlooked country.

I get your point on Moldovan Pinot Noir. It is rare to find a good one.

The problem seems more to be consistency than anything else, which makes me think it is more a winemaking issue than a grape problem. Chateau Cristi made a good one in 2017, but since then nothing interesting from them. Taraboste made a really great one in 2009. Also a good one in 2012. The 2016 was also reasonable. The 2019 is a little bitter on the finish for me. Unicorn made a non typical one in 2011 that was really good. Famber have quite a clean one from 2019, but it isn't particularly complex. Et Cetera made "Naughty Boys" in 2016, which was excellent, but didn't follow it up with the same quality after. Other than that, you tend to get a lot of weird ones, where the winemaker tries to beat it into something more resembling a bordeaux variety, which is just weird for me.

Is this a parody of people trying to sound they are mumbling and can’t pronounce words on purpose. Is so, really good job.
