Don't forget that Yassop spent months if not a whole year in Fusha village, that is a skip and a jump away from Syrup Village, and yet he didn't visit his son.

I’m glad that despite the bad ones, Oda gave us great dads in the likes of Kyros, Whitebeard, Zeff, Corazon, Oden, and Kuma 🥹

I love that the antagonists in one piece, while antagonistic to the Straw hats and such, are usually surprisingly wholesome with their own groups and or families, like Saint Charlos' father
And even the Doflamingo family pirates all genuinely caring for each other, it adds a lot of depth to the world and I love it so much

0:27 Hopefully there would be a flashback arc for Dragon about his past and we might get to see his mother, the lady crazy enough to be with Garp and named their son after a dragon.

It's honestly rather interesting how Usopp doesn't begrudge his father for leaving him and his mother (who dies while he's out at sea) to be a pirate; in fact, he actually boasts how proud he is to be his son when Klahadore talks smack on him. It's hard to say how much of this is genuine admiration and how much of this is him coping with the loss of his mother and clinging to that false hope that he'll come back someday. I also recall Oda saying that Yasopp got consent from his wife before leaving with Shanks, which to me sounds like Oda trying to make what Yasopp did less of a scummy move. At the very least, I liked that one bit where it looks like the Red Hair Pirates would meet up with Luffy again and Yasopp was freaking out over potentially meeting his son; he knows he's been a crappy father and fears the worst. The day Usopp reunites with Yasopp will be an interesting event, indeed.

"ever since he was a tiny little luffling" has to be the most hilarious way to say kid/child luffy

In Shanks' defense, I don't think he expected Gordon to be stupid enough to keep himself and Uta alone on Elegia for 12 years when he entrusted her to him (or to not clean up the fucking snails that had recorded the truth behind what happened).

If Saturn turns out to be Bonnie's father, we'll need a whole new tier.

I'm honestly surprised that Axe Hand Morgan didn't land in the "The Worst" tier. I mean, dude legit held his son hostage, and threatened to kill him.

Better to be a dad than a mom in this series honestly because either oda kills you or just doesnt deem you worthy enough to even make/ mention.

In one piece blood relation does not (always) equal family. roger was shanks and buggy's father and he was a great one. Ace is the son of WB bonney is kuma's daughter nami and nojiko are the doughters of bell mere etc. The world government refers only to blood relation while the story doesn't.
I think it's significant when you rank fathers in One Piece.

You forgot to rank Garp lol. I guess not enough is known about how he parented Dragon, but as a grandfather he could be surprisingly abusive and absent. Or maybe it just comes off that way because him and Luffy seem to trigger each other?

Dragon is the exact opposite of a helicopter parent, like a submarine parent or smth idk

I really, really hope, Yasopp and Usopp is gonna have an upgrade flashback or something, because before the mother dies, she did say something along the line that do not hate your your father or something ? So maybe she knows what's up, and I hope it will be the case that there are more reason than just simply abandon your family to be a pirate, I mean, in real life, people abandon piracy to have a family, this feel weird.

In defense of Homing, I genuinely don't think he had any way of knowing what kind of danger he was exposing his family to. Honestly, considering his behavior, I don't think the Celestial Dragons in general have any clue what the average people of the world think of them. Seriously, think about it, how could they find out? They can't ask each other since they all seem to be either uncaring or unaware of this, and when asked what they think commoners think of them, you'll most likely get some variation of two different answers. Either "They're basically animals, I doubt they're capable of thought" or "It's our birthright to rule them. They're surely just as happy to serve us as we are to be served by them". They obviously can't check libraries or newspapers to learn this, because no one would be stupid enough to put anything negative about the Celestial Dragons in print. They can't ask their slaves because the slaves would either lie about what they think out of fear for their lives, or lie in the hopes that the Celestial Dragons would do what Homing did and get themselves killed. Even most high ranked marines like Garp or Akainu would likely never speak the truth of what they think about the Celestial Dragons to their face because even though they're more than capable of taking care of themselves, being honest about it would likely end with them being branded a criminal and forced into a life of piracy just remain free from either prison or slavery. Yeah, Homing made what's probably the worst choice imaginable for his family, but if you really stop to think about it, I really don't believe he had any way of knowing or even suspecting that it was a bad choice. I honestly blame the extreme isolation of the Celestial Dragons, as well as the lack of info on the outside world (likely at least partially due to Imu and the Five Elder Stars) for what happened to the Donquiote family more than Homing himself.

An honorable mentioned for the tried but failed tier would be Garp. He does care for Ace and Luffy, but he was very hard on both of them (leaving them in the jungle, throwing them into ravines, tying them to helium filled balloons for some reason) and also came and went in their formative years, which contribuited Luffy's abbandonment issues. And then there are his actions at Marineford, which are an whole can if worms of its own. He has made pretty bad choices

Most of the dads on this list definitely fall into (and in some cases deserve) that trope of "Shonen Father" common with most protagonists in that they're either absent or abusive. Rarely do we get the 'tried & failed' or 'unexpectedly good'

Can't believe Liam forgot Sukiyaki only escaped after Kaido long killed Oden, nevertheless good video.

I always interpreted Kaido calling Yamato "son" because he wanted a strong, masculine, manly manchild who inherits his will.
So he just ended up calling his little girl "son".

Which reminds me at the Atlantis Disney movie:
"- how did a girl became a chief mechanic of an expedition?
- My father wanted two boys, one is a boxer, the other is a mechanic. Im here, my sister is preparing for her other champion belt"
But Kaido instead of raising a "gorilla/ogre tomboy Princess" he raised his own nemesis ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
