Bait and switch job listings and false job listings should be treated the same as bait and switch advertising and false advertising.

We need more transparency and accountability in job markets. Candidates have been on the losing side of an unlevel playing field for far too long.

Can't believe this isn't illegal.

I have been seeing these fake jobs for years. People told me I was crazy. I figured it was data mining. It has been very frustrating with these people playing with my life.

The reason for "ghost" requisitions has nothing to do with a "pipeline". It has everything to do with HR justifying their own existence. HR employees have to interview to keep their jobs by pretending to continuously interview good candidates.

It's self dealing: wasting candidates' time to keep their own jobs.

It's amazing how a company will layoff people and then a few weeks later hold a job fair. These aren't the kind of people you want to work for, there's no job security. They'll talk about how we're a family or team, but forget your name before you make it to your car if they want to "downsize".

I was telling people this years ago and people gaslit me and now they finally tell the truth. Infuriating. It needs to be regulated now!

I spent 4-6 hours filling out an application and doing a behavioral test just to immediately get auto rejected after submission.

I despise applying to jobs blindly.

When I was in college, a government contractor came to campus to give us a test and interview the students. The test didn’t really cover anything that we learned in college and some of the questions seemed to be trick questions. When it came for my turn to interview, I asked the interviewer about the test. She just laughed and informed me that she had no plans to hire anybody. She was there only to assess the quality of students. I was a little shocked that a company would do something like that. Of course, the interviewer was not lying and nobody got a job offer.

I knew an HR director who posted an HR job that was already filled. Had been filled for years. He did so to keep the employee on their toes as he wasn't happy with their work. The employee didn't even know their job was posted until someone outside of the department asked them if they were leaving.

This is so messed up to be completely honest. If I found out that my application was held onto with no intention to hire me or anyone I would be pissed. I’m sorry, even if they are saving it for a later date TELL ME THAT SO IM NOT WASTING MY TIME WAITING FOR A DECISION TO BE MADE. Also, to me, it’s a slap in the face to hold on to my application for a later date because at that point I’m not gonna want to work for a company that put me through that. Then companies wonder why candidates make sure they have multiple job offers before making a decision. YOU COMPANIES created this distrust.

The hardest one is when you have no chance at all because they are gonna hire internally anyway, but you still gotta go through the dance and all the interviews as an outsider. I wish they didn't post jobs they weren't going to hire from outside anyway.

"Average time for a high skill, high educated job posting to be filled is 45 days." I once had four interviews over fourteen months before being told the position was being converted to an unpaid internship.

My last employer had almost 400 job openings. The real truth is high turnover, not paying enough, difficult managers, & those hiring managers who reject every candidate. In sum, there are a mess

This is so true. There should be a website cataloguing these fake job listings.

My experience is that over 60 percent of the time, they're posting (perhaps to comply with equal opp laws) for jobs where they already gave a chosen candidate. I've even been to more than one interview for different positions where this is told to me by be hiring manager 😳

I've suspected this for a long time. There's also an issue of jobs being posted, but the candidate is already chosen.

This is why I'm changing to a trade with the main goal of opening my own shop and becoming a contractor. I'm done playing stupid games with employers.

I remember when I graduated, i submitted a bunch of resumes. I never tailor my resume to an employer and I never apply to jobs that ask for cover letters so i don't feel my time is being wasted. But I remember that a few organizations i applied to called me over six months after i applied. I couldn't even remember them. It was so awkward. Like i kept thinking why would you call me after so long, it made no sense to me. I don't know why employers would do this. It gives such a bad image. Like folks, apply to multiple jobs and don't get excited about any potential employer until you are hired.

People should worry about whether some companies or fake companies are using ghost job posts to collect personal information. Some applications require applicant to fill home address and it is alarming.

100% true. I spoke to two companies who admitted they were taking my resume for a future date. One of them just had a big layoff too. Also, my suspicion on keeping fake postings to “motivate” employees is really designed to make them fear that one of them is going to get replaced so they work harder.
