There were also Game Demos via Download Play, if you access the Nintendo Channel in the Wii, there was a section for DS Demos, where you could download those demos in your DS, but they only lasted as long as you were connected.

I believe you actually missed a game: Kirby Fighters 2! If you get the demo, you have standard stuff like only the beginning of story mode and a handful of copy abilities. However, you can also play online with friends lobbies like the baseball game. You’re still limited to the demo’s copy abilities, but they are pretty good abilities so you get experience the core gameplay well enough!

Your hot take idea kind of reminds of Pokémon black and white where if you had your C-Gear turned on other players in local wireless range could enter your world in a limited capacity, and do special missions, that often involve hiding from or finding the host player.

The reason Chrystal chronicles is online only is because download play works crossplatform with pc, playstation and iphone/android. Doesn't matter who owns the game or on what platform, anyone can join from the demo version of any platform.

I love the idea of sending whatever game you're playing on the Switch 2 to another person. Maybe it could be like sending an airdrop request on iPhone 😂

A port of Nintendoland wouldn't require a Switch for each player. Just one docked Switch with four controllers and the actual game, and another Switch in handheld with the "lite" client downloaded so it can act as the gamepad. I don't feel like that's a particularly tall order, you only need one friend with a Switch and four controllers between the lot of you.

The demo for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is also like this. You can play the full multiplayer of the game over download play if someone else has the full game, and even if not, you can play the demo multiplayer over download play with a friend that also has the demo.

YESS I LOVE THIS BEING BROUGHT UP. I love the switch has capabilities of doing download play in demo versions. I tried to find a list of download play type games and couldn’t find it. I only knew of Clubhouse, Pac-Man VS. I was hoping Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD would have it since it was peak download play on the 3DS and was disappointed when it wasn’t available on full release..
