We can thank Todd Bowles for this. It was after his Super Bowl scheme that a lot of coaches moved to it. Same reason why mahomes struggled to start that next season before he moved to what he’s done now just taking what is given

Nahh, old school teams ran the ball effectively, which brought the safeties down, which opened it up to man coverage with no safety over the top. Running effectively and controlling time of possession is the winning formula, defenses don't stop that, they will lose.

Basically the previous generation of quarterbacks was so good that teams forgot running the ball was an option.

Don't tell Sam Darnold that. 97 yards 🗣🗣🗣 to the house 🗣🗣🗣

I disagree with the advanced schemes. I think plays and concepts have gotten alot simpler in last 10 or so years. Brady/Manning were last ones to master advanced nfl offenses

Who's here after Carr, Darnold, Murray, and others had deep balls this week alone

Run the ball more to keep the defense honest 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s also that we force young qb’s to play before they are mentally and physically ready to. Never the less if the team if good enough to not ruin them immediately. Zach Wilson, Bryce young, Malik Willis, Sam darnold, etc.

In order to beat two high safety coverage, a run game needs to be established. I think the league average for rushing yards is up while passing yards are down. The running back position is more important now, especially those with dual threat skills.

I love hearing Tom Brady talk about how new rules changed how a QB plays. He doesn’t have to worry about his WR getting annihilated after catching a pass in the middle of the field, because that’s a penalty. He doesn’t have to worry about his timing being off because illegal contact is a thing. So it just made passing easier and so many QBs were breaking records. Now you see defenses trying to stop those deep passes with new coverage schemes and using more zone. If it were me, I would hope to just run the ball all day. No passes if at all possible. Just have two or three really good RBs and then a great O-Line. See if the defense can stop that. That’s when your average QB can throw the ball. But I’m still saying 90% run.

Brissett and Minshew catching strays 😂

It’s because, in college these QBs were runners. In the nfl everyone is fast.

2 high safety looks were invented in the 70s. It’s been done for 50 years

I’ve been telling people for 2-3 years that defenses are catching up. Everyone is allowing QBs to complete passes underneath and DCs are trusting their guys to come up and make the tackle. Keep the offense in front of you, that’s the name of the game.

Todd Bowles. Brandon Staley and Vic Fangio scheme with a couple of wrinkles in between the 3. That 2 high safety look scrambled the brains of a lot of qbs. Now Brian Flores and Mike Macdonald modified it to bring in more pressure to the QB via blitzes or simulated pressure.

It has nothing to do with zone defense. The qbs simply aren’t as good. Let’s get real here.

Time for the running game to come back!

When you draft quarterbacks based on athleticism and penalize defenders for hammering receivers who were left out to dry by inaccurate QBs, you reward bad quarterback play and incentivize it to continue. If you had to answer to your TE for getting him knocked out, you'd work to be a bit more accurate next time.

They showed a clip of Moss making a one-handed catch like it was the defensive scheme that made him able to catch the deep ball. 🤦

Well, guess that means offenses are gonna have to pound the rock again!
