In recent years, disputes over historical issues have resulted in a deterioration in relations between South Korea and Japan. These disputes have also made trilateral cooperation with the United States more difficult. The Biden administration has made improving trilateral cooperation with South Korea and Japan a priority, but what are the prospects for improving relations and where might cooperation be most promising?

He is currently working on a diplomatic history of the creation and management of the U.S. security alliances with Japan and South Korea during the Cold War. Mr. Sneider also contributes regularly to the leading Japanese publication Toyo Keizai.
