Pats message: Outsource the small stuff, and focus on the big stuff and honing it.

There is something very valuable and satisfying in doing these so called menial tasks. You even said you loved doing them. Time can expand when we do things we love with care, and somehow we find we have more time than we thought.

Perfect lesson. It is possible to get more time, and time is the most valuable thing we have.

I get what you are saying, but some find mundane (although essential) activities relaxing. A respite from the stress of their other *high value* duties.

As someone who also loves ironing my shirts and shining my shoes (so damn satisfying) but was frustrated with how long it takes, I needed to hear this. Though I might still shine the occasional shoe, it can be therapeutic like meditation.

It's all about time BUT I think if you truly enjoy doing something on your own, do it. For example I love cooking, I can order food from resturants all the time but I dont do that because I enjoy the time it takes to cook a good meal.

I enjoy working on my car myself. I learned how to weld, spray paint and troubleshoot the engine, while my main job is in IT. The mental pleasure i receive from doing these tasks myself far outweighs the rat race of career progression.

Wow this is so huge. I used to get my house cleaned but my bf is retired so said he would do it. He does a great job at some things but others he doesn't do and this has left them for me to do. Now instead of working on my business on the weekend I'm doing laundry and cleaning. I think I'm getting a house cleaner again. Thanks Patrick.

My buddy said this about working on his own car, but here's a counter point:

When you do your own for yourself, you KNOW the quality of work that YOU put in. I've had shirts ruined at a dry cleaner, and car issues from a bad mechanic.

You're absolutely right, but it also costs more to fix other people's mistakes.

This is something I was taught when I graduated and started making money. It is called Opportunity Cost in economics and it is powerful. Opportunity cost is the forgone benefit that would have been derived by an option not chosen.
To properly evaluate opportunity costs, the costs and benefits of every option available must be considered and weighed against the others.
Considering the value of opportunity costs can guide individuals and organizations to more

I value self reliance. From washing my Jeep to renovating my home. Do it all.

Nothing wrong with shining your shoes and such but the message is clearly stating the importance of your time.

Like Garyvee says Focus on what you're good at.

Eating healthy and exercise also allows you to gain time with a little discipline

I am sad that you don't value shining shoes at $200 per hour :) Haha! Great video!

The day I stop to do such ‘fancy’ thing is because I need to prepare for a real war, a war to fight for freedom!

So what ya saying is pay someone to do the everyday things for ya.. The little things like that keep us in check.. Humble is a good thing!

Judging your time based off how much you can earn leads to a gross undervaluation of your time and missed prioritization of your life

Time=life not money

These small videos you make, Pat, are like a little slap-slap on the butt. "hey hey, wakie-wakie". Thank you for the value you bring to us at no cost.
