The 'Code of Conduct' Must Die

The "CoC" concept has done more harm than good, weaponized against people in Linux, NixOS, Python, C++, openSUSE, Godot, and many other organizations.

It is time for every "Code of Conduct" to get dumped into the trash.

I'm so sick of the word police and cancel culture. The thought police are some of the most intolerant folks around, constantly finding reason to be offended by anything, (mis)interpreting every word and action as personal attack or insult.
Just be nice, professional and respectful of one another. Keep your political views out of technical discussions.

This kind of bs is everywhere. I run a small non-tech related business and we serve mostly larger businesses. I keep getting sent emails by clients, where they are wanting us to fill in forms to see which nonsensical guidelines and protocols we follow.

The problem with code of conducts isn't that they try to codify a specific standard of conduct. The problem with them is, and always has been, that they are a bludgeon with which to attack undesirables in the organization when you otherwise would have no justification.

If you need to point to a set of rules to expel someone from your organization instead of their conduct itself, that says more about the organization than it does about the expelled individual.
