So incredible - with the amount of power it can achieve I'm a little surprised you don't still see these commonly today.
Although I guess the jobs that would utilize such a torch may not be in as high demand, and safety protocols likely would not allow such a thing.
Still - very cool, I'd like to buy/make one myself if I ever get the chance.

thank you, I have a question, do you fill the upper tank through the blowpipe or is there a second fillport? if there is no port how do you get the air out while filling the tank?

So the heated chamber expands pulling in vaporized alcohol which expands and is expelled with force creating a vacuum that restarts the process, like a pop pop boat motor. Genius.

Amazing 👏... Is the upper tank hollow, or is there some kind of wick material/rayon to soak up the alcohol? And why is there a little bump at the top? Is the little tube open at the top where the bump is, or is it perforated on the sides? I want to build one. 👏 Does the alcohol only sit on the top, or does it fill the whole tank down the sides? Is the bump on top so the pipe sits just above the level of the alcohol? I think it's all starting to make sense.. I ❤️ it. 😅

So that top part is hollow, the flame heats it up, and it blows one way, and sucks air in the other way, and makes the torch.

It looks like the only opening in the top tank is the tube orifice. Does that mean that no gas (ie air) other than the alcohol vapor is escaping?
