I once stayed at a hotel where there was recently a flood so the bottom walls were stained with water the ground was mushy and smelt of mold. Mosquitos EVERYWHERE and I dropped something under the bed and went to grab it and touched something squishy and fuzzy. Mold....It was quite a while ago and near Kansas. I’m traumatized

I stayed at a fleabag hotel in the New Orleans area for one night. I had a feeling seedy people have died in the room I was tiptoeing in and left things hidden in the room where cleaning ladies are scared to go. Took out my swiss army knife and unscrewed the vent cover and found $5, 000 in cash in a paper bag!! The place has been renovated now and the surrounding area has finally cleaned up its act. The moral of the story, carry a pocketknife wherever you go!!!!

Earlier this year my husband had lost his job and to top it off we had just got evicted but luckily it was tax time so we had to stay in a hotel 15 minutes from where my job for a month. The hotel was nightmare. The room service only came 4 times out of our month of staying there, it looked gross and dangerous, there was a smashed roach on the wall, the bed was like sleeping on steel people at the front desk were so rude. We did end up staying in another hotel for two nights afterwards that had the best bed I ever slept on. Then we moved into our new place.

The most disgusting hotel I've ever been in is when I entered my hotel room and I saw bed bugs and there was vape inside of the room. There even a no smoking or vaping sign!! That's the most messed up hotel room I've ever been in

Mine was a motel... but it's called Tradewinds Motel and it's in Ocean City New Jersey. There was black mold in the bathroom, there was socks under the bed, The pool was so small that 10 people wouldn't fit, The electricity goes out regularly (Fried my moms flat iron), and they have bad staff (The lady who you book rooms with is so snobby). I'm never going back there the black mold was the worst part!

I worked at a hotel very briefly (6 months) and a couple nasty things happened that made me go...

1: Cleaning lady was using toilet water (clean, but still.) to clean the mirrors in the bathrooms. She did get in trouble, but who knows who else is doing that.
2: They used white spray paint on the mattresses to cover up stains (sometimes blood) to avoid having to replace the mattress. Freak gross.
I left not long after I witnessed those things. Also the job was just terrible.
Mad respect to those who do it and do it correctly!

I stayed with my mom at a motel on the west end of Apple Valley California, since we couldn’t get home after her car broke down. It was $50 and tax in June 2001 (about $70 now) And this place did feel like a motel from the 1950s. The decor was straight out of the era, the exterior looked the part, the front door didn’t even have a deadbolt or security latch, just a basic door lock. That and the pool was closed by the health department! Yeah that place was pretty bad at the time.

They’ve closed down now.

I went to a hotel in Virginia along the way to Florida. This was a Days Inn. Other hotels nearby were booked so this was our only choice. In the lobby it stunk. We went to the room to approach an unpleasant smell of pot. When I went over to the bathroom it stunk of pee. Another haunted part, when you laid in the middle of the bed, something would hurt you. I got up immediately when I felt it. Me and my sister switched spots and she also felt it. We got in the car and drove over to the lobby. My mom asked for money back, they did not give us our money back so we called the cops on them. There were no more hotels open, so we had to sleep in the car.

Room Price: $80.00

I stayed in a comfort inn in Nashville the first night we noticed caution tape on the door and a strange orange stain on the curtain not to mention there was dirty silverware under a night table in our room

Well I spent part of my childhood in Tanzania. This was in the early 90s, before the relative economic boom in this country recently.
It's hard to pick out a single place, so let's just say this. It was custom that if someone went to the bathroom in a public place (like a restaurant), they got the question "how was it" upon returning. As in, people reflexively inquired on how the bathroom rated on a scale from decent to OH GOD, NO!

This was so common that I didn't reflect upon it. It was not until I returned to Sweden and I realized that that it struck me that that question was kinda weird.

I'm a university counselor, and one time we where asked to travel for an important meeting, and the university paid everything (the bus, our meals and our hotel). We where about 30 people and we where divided and sent by groups to different hotels. The directives where sent to a nice hotel, the guy students where sent to a really horrible motel (at least from the outside, I didn't see its inside). And us girl students where sent to another one. It was awful. I was so embarrassed to be seen by anyone entering this hotel. The room had a mini-split, but it barely worked and dripped water on a table under it. The bathroom wasn't exactly clean and the bath tube was almost like a fungus garden. The sheets of the bed where ragged and dusty. I didn't even want to sleep in them. When I could fall asleep I dreamt that there where bugs in the bed and they made my skin itch. When my roommates and I woke up at morning I talked to them about the dream and we just kind of laughed hopping it was only a dream and it didn't happen in reality. But as one of them was getting ready, she said "hey, you won't believe this, but there really are bugs on the bed" as she saw a little black bug on it in a grossed out tone. I was watching TV laying on that same bed and I jumped out in horror when she said that. Our other roomate just couldn't stand it anymore and said "That's it! We are leaving this room right now!" We all agreed and took our stuff to the lobby and waited for the bus that would arrive 3 hours later. We preferred to wait in that lobby without any AC than to stay in that disgusting room.

So my worst hotel was right after my friend, his mom, and me, visited Legoland to celebrate the end of the school year. The first floor was under renovation, which wasn't all that bad, but when we got our room, I was so glad my friends mom used to do room service because she sprayed the beds with some cleaning freshener and luckily before we settled down she found hair in the beds, to make things worse at that moment my friend and I found sugar ants on the walls. We got moved to a different room which was much better but didn't have hot water. At about three A.M. everyone on the floor was woken up by three drunk teens at most only 17 ran around knocking on doors, screaming, and worst of all, trying to break in. That's right, they fiddled with the doorknob while my friends mom stayed close to the door. Once they moved on she phoned downstairs and a worker came up, the guys ran but he caught their faces and said he would alert their parents. The staff was great though, they deserved so much better, but the policy was dumb, the hotel said since they were under renovation the breakfast bar was closed, but rewards members got food anyways. Plus the elevator rattled no matter how heavy the people or luggage inside were.

Cheroco Motel in Cheroca Pass CA where our rental car died. We called it "Even The Flies Won't Stay Inn." Houskeeper remade our beds without chaging the sheets after two preschoolers danced around on them with dirty feet. Moldy bathroom, NEVER cleaned. Bad air conditioning. We had to move out at noon, waiting for replacement rental car. It was 100 degrees outside and they charged us for water. My mother bought a nice big lunch at their diner, sicked the health department on them and reported on this place to her credit card Co. She got ALL her money back.
