I mean you know these things happened but it's a whole other thing when you hear the words he actually said. It's a hard pill to swallow that the world was like this, where this man felt comfortable enough to talk about commiting genocide in public. I know we still have plenty of problems but I'm so thankful to have been in the time and place I am. Good video, I learned something today and I think it's important to get these stories out there and know the truth.

My ex-boyfriend's grandmother grew up on a reservation. She told him about how when you went to the hospital to have your baby, the doctors would tie your tubes and sterilize you after the first baby, so they couldn't sustain the population.

This was not taught in any of my History classes and it should be taught at least in High School and up.
History is nether good or evil but there are many especially on the right that do not want the actual facts of History to be taught. We all like to think of the USA as the good guys wearing the white hats but we have to acknowledge the darker side of our History, learn from it and do better.

This was not taught in my 4th grade California history class.
That class also left out the genocide that Junipero Serra and Sutter as in Sutter's fort was responsible for.
I've only learned about these things because of videos like yours and public radio.
They did cover the Donner party in 4th grade California history but left out the part about the native guides being killed and eaten first.

This is why History is important to learn about. I've never known this happened, never learned about it in school or anything. It's so gross people even thought that owning other human beings was right, probably why they had to dehumanize those people that rhey targeted.
