Does air pressure really affect carp fishing, or is it just another myth? In this video, we dive deep into how air pressure influences carp behaviour, feeding patterns, and your chances of landing a big one. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just starting out, understanding air pressure could completely change the way you fish!

🔥 In this video, you'll learn:
✅ What air pressure actually does to carp
✅ The best conditions for catching more fish
✅ Whether low or high pressure is better for fishing

What are your personal experiences with air pressure? I also got the whole oxygen levels bit the wrong way around 🤣

Dissolved oxygen decreases with lower pressure, not the other way around (think of opening a bottle of fizzy pop where the higher pressure inside the sealed bottle keeps the CO2 dissolved until you equalise the pressure by exposing it to atmosphere).
As for swim bladders you have two types in fish physostomous and physoclistous. Physoclistous is a sealed vessel that needs to bleed excess pressure into the blood slowly in order to balance any external change, you'll see the results of this kind of system if you've ever reeled a fish up from the deep sea and found it inflated like a grotesque balloon. Carp have a physostomous system which connects the esophagus (food pipe) to the swim bladder meaning that internal pressure can be adjusted rapidly and easily by swallowing air to fill it up or burping/farting out excess gas.
This whole thing about air pressure and a few other things like moon phases go back to a book on largemouth bass fishing in the 60/70s, the name of it escapes me but it was very influential and accurate to its chosen subject but not necessarily to carp. Largemouth bass have a physoclistus swim bladder and therefore are very susceptible to rising and falling through the water column in relation to changing air pressure but someone clearly didn't quite understood the source material and applied it to all fish and it's since gone down in folklore. Personally I think prevailing conditions are more of a factor than anything else, wind increases summer oxygenation dramatically, rain can cause some weird temperature bands, if it's cloudy it's far darker underwater etc. etc.

Always the best action when there was a sudden drop in pressure (weather change). This was especially good in the summertime.

I blank no matter the pressure or weather 😂

Know you’ve mentioned it but think the 20 min baiting approach for this time of year is a bit OTT…if you’ve got 3 rods out = 3 baits…putting out 4-5 Spods of boilies every 20 mins with an avg 15 boilies in a spod = 45+ boilies every hour…means you could have over 300 boilies out there by the end and you’re hoping they’ll find one of your 3 hook baits …at a time of year when they don’t feed as much. They could’ve been feeding quite a lot but not touch ur hook bait….On the plus side they get a good feed and should have some good weight to them later in the year!! 👍👍😂

Finally!! The amount of time I hear people say “yeah the air pressure is just right” - but they couldn’t tell you how it works!
Thank you!

Would like to see this done in the same swim just in the summer / spring / autumn

I understand what your saying with the changes in air pressure, I've heard them myself, but there is one thing I do know, at this time of year it's pot luck!😉👌👍

Really enjoy the diverse subjects you are covering. Blanks are part of our angling World, respect that you show them and the struggles.
Great filming, stay in the groove 😁

I used to follow the air pressure a lot and I think it’s more down to the vision, you have more chance when it’s cloudy and windy than if it’s sunny and calm because of the lower light levels and more surface noise

Whilst there’s no logic to my thinking, I like to think that the pressure level isn’t so much the defining factor, more big changes in pressure is what will make a difference. If it’s been high and suddenly drops in a short period of time then that could be what changes the feeding as opposed to long sustained periods of low pressure. In the same way big changes in temperature, or wind, or heavy rain are things I look for. I don’t think one specific factor of the weather will guarantee you more bites, but sudden changes in that weather is what excites me when I’m on the bank.
Great video as always Curly. Love all of your content. Keep it up

Try fishing a smaller water. And like you said, zigs are an option. Good luck for the next video 🤞

Personally, the barometer is pretty low on my list of priorities when considering fishing conditions. I've had good days with high pressure and bad days with low pressure. One thing that I've noticed is that the river fish seem to be less affected by barometric pressure than the still water fish. That's just anecdotal from my own experience, and I have no science to back that up. Good video, interesting topic.

What about doing one on moon phases as well?

need to find the first, as you said they weren't there, so no fish. plus yiu did seem to have pictures of carp caught in high pressure than low. It not a problem for many of us as we cannot go fishing when the conditions are right, we go when we can. Good watch as usual
