I feel like being the quiet kid can actually make you do better academically in high school because when I participate lots in class, I get overconfident and do poor in tests but when I am silent, I observe every line of teaching and do the test like a BOSS

When I say hi to my teachers or raise my hand they ignore me 80% of the time 💀

You only really need a letter rec if you're applying to selective schools. Most state schools (especially in your home state, but excepting the really big ones like Cal Berkeley or Texas at Austin) just want your transcript, an ACT or SAT score, and sometimes a small essay. If you just want the piece of paper that says you're allowed to have a job, there's not much else to it. It's different if you want to get into a selective school or program, though. It's different for every school of course, so do research on every school that you apply to, and just in case you do end up needing one, it really doesn't take that much to make friends with one or two teachers just in case.

Life Lesson: only be the quiet kid if someone tries to kill you

Schools in the US are so weird. Your grades should speak for your academic abilities, not your attitude in class. If youre shy/quiet, youre screwed. If you study better alone, youre screwed. If youre smart and therefore distracted during class, youre screwed.

Honestly this goes for college too. As an introvert myself i TOTALLY understand the anxiety, but you want to be on the good side of your teachers at least even a little bit. Ask questions, even if you think its dumb, greet your teachers etc. You won't regret it.

As someone with major social anxiety who is working through the college admissions process, I think the best thing you can do is try and personally connect with your teacher. If you're missing a day of class ask if you can come after school and have them explain the material to you rather than just emailing them. Trust me I know its difficult but if you find some potential teachers I genuinely think they'll want to help you. Hope this helps!

Honestly it’s not just about the letter, since middle school every day before I walk into class I say hello to my teacher (even the ones that aren’t very nice and I don’t like). If it’s Monday I’ll ask how there weekend was, if it’s Friday I’ll say have a good weekend, and I’ll say goodbye and see you tomorrow before I leave. It’s about being polite and also showing respect and just acknowledging their existence. It also builds a relationship because multiple teachers would let me just sit and chil in their class before school started and I’d have conversations with them they wanted to talk to me because I was nice to them. One thing that I’ll never forget was my seventh grade math teacher. I always said hi to her before I walked into her room as she would stand by her door and even if she was across the wall in front of a difference classroom I’d say hi. One day she came in after me and said thank you and said “do you know how many kids walk in every day and never say hello to me but you are the only person that goes out of your way to acknowledge me” I never forgot that and I often think about it when I see some classmates flat out ignore our teachers. So it’s not just about a letter of recommendation it’s about being a nice person and treating others with respect and decency

Ay for all the introverts out there, i feel you. I was an introvert too until I started to intentionally have uncomfortable social interactions and soon became a slightly more social introvert and now i talk to my teachers all the time and random strangers too. All it comes down to at the end of the day is, grow a pair and have a 30 second conversation. It’ll change your life
