Wow, very nice car there, man.
Now, let me tell you something - in 1989 I stole a white one, 2.0i GT, only 10 months old. I was a poor guy, no drivers license - I had the tiny spoiler rear removed, put other (stolen of course) wheel hubs on, removed the mobile antenna from the roof (and tore the whole 1980ies phone stuff out of the rear for weight optimizing), changed the numberplates with other stolen ones - AND to finish it all off, I added a little Danish flag sticker on the rear. Those minor changes made it into MY car now - not even the real owner would recognize it, had he driven by. The only thing still "not so good" was the GT stickers on the doors. I always parked it so one wouldn't notice these when driving by.
I kept this wonderful car for ½ a year, and I drove it for 19.900km - it cost me zero, nothing. Petrol? Nope, I stole the petrol. One of my friends who lived across from a gas station where I just filled the tank and drove off, nice and quietly, had one of these "police radios" - he saw everything, and he later told me that I was reported for the theft - as a Mazda 626. Hurraaah; I managed to keep my wonderful Ascona in such anonymous way that one of the very few times I actually was seen during a gas theft, the King Ascona was "recognized" as a fucking Mazda.
However; I didn't steal all the gas I used - I had my municipality pay for some of it, as I used my 2.0i GT for transporting my fellow pupils at a course I attended. I did tell the pupils that I was a car thief with no drivers license, so they wouldn't get a complete shock, should the police "interfere" - the deal was that they "didn't know anything" - and I would say the same to the cops. But we didn't get caught.
The guy i stole my Ascona King from? According to the papers I found in the gloves apartment, he was an independant plumber, owned his own firm, and probably had some journeymen working there. He should be fine, no need for bad conscience - also, plumbers are known to be asshats, so I couldn't care. I did send him some friendly "thanks for this very fine and fast car" thoughts, though.
Anyways; I could've kept the car even longer, but one day I lend it to someone - big mistake, he ruined the gearbox in some mysterious way, maybe trying to downshift from 4th to 3rd or something, but hit 1st instead. He wouldn't admit that, however. He left it on the highway, where police found it. That ended my life with my stolen King Ascona. But having had such a car for 6 months without paying a dime wasn't bad for a poor bum like me, after all. Damn it's 30 years ago. Insane. Today I drive a Corsa C 1.2 from 2002 (which I paid for, and I have a drivers license also lol)
