He's the one who likes all our pretty songs, and he likes to sing along...but he don't know what it means.

I love the look he gives as the crowd cheers. Almost nobody ever understood what the song was really about. This is the best version of the song, too, with a great kickass solo.

Edit: "Rape Me" is about many things. One, Kurt's frustration with people misunderstanding or reading too much into his lyrics. This song was meant to be bold, blunt, and ironic. Second, you could think of it as the protagonist in "Polly" responding to her attacker. Like, "Here I am, no matter what you do, I'll persist." Three - and Kurt denied this when news outlets suggested this - it was also about the media taking advantage of the person. Kurt constantly felt his privacy and home life were unfairly violated. Biggest example was the Vanity Fair expose, which almost got Frances taken away from him and Courtney permanently.

I am a sweaty macho man, not hairy, not rapey, lol. But Kurt's death is something I will always remember. I was in middle school and I was completely inconsolable. In highschool I had a band with very, very mild success, that did a lot of Nirvana covers. Rip dude! We loved you. So many people loved you.

In the crowd's defense, they stopped cheering after the whole raping part.

That was a weird time. Alternative became the main thing and a lot -a whole lot, of people who were into Nirvana and the like were not even remotely understanding the ideas behind it. I was in high school at the time, I remember a guy I knew who loved Nirvana was often seen wearing a shirt with a rebel flag that said “You wear your X and I’ll wear mine.” The irony never occurred to him.
