That's why we in Hindu / indi origin had gotra system where you don't marry same gotra " sometimes they are called 1-2 cousins " over HISTORY alot has changed on south Asian / indi origin countries, let's hope we retrace our great ancient cultures with mordern touch .

Correction: It is NOT common in the entire Indian subcontinent. More than 75% of the marriages in Pakistan are between cousins. But that number is less than 5% in India and China, and that too exists in a few states only. Stop normalizing it by saying it's quite common in "Asia", it's not. It exists only in Pakistan, maybe Afghanistan as well now.

If you can’t digest this concept at least don’t CRITISIZE it. If it is not normal for you it doesn’t mean that it is bad or something that shouldn’t happen. We south Indians have other equations and other relation with our cross cousins. If you don’t like it leave it. I have born out of consanguineous marriage and I am all right and I respect my parent’s relation and who ever are in consanguineous marriage in my family. I have seen more than 15 consanguineous marriages in my family WITHOUT A SINGLE DEFECT IN A CHILD.

Cross cousin marriages are common all over south india, glorified in our films too, probably the reason cross cousins don’t address each other as brothers and sisters but as sisters in law or brothers in law; also though first cousins they wouldn’t share the same gotra hence not “prohibited”….It’s been happening from generations and it’s still quite prevalent, across all strata of society(eg:our ex Chief ministers son married his first cousin while the girl was still doing her bachelors) and this practice isn’t coz of Islamic influence, but on retaining land and property within families alongwith a sense of security stemming from familiarity…

In my father side of the family, they used practice incest (they are aboroginal from central america) the only phisycal problems they have are asthma and hearth problems, but mentally ill problems are, depression, suicidal thoughts, alcoholism, drug adiction, and schizophrenia, run un the family

So, you may not have any phisycal abnormality, but mentally problems are part of inbreed.

In south india it's not an issue for marrying cousin according to religion they do it most often
But most people these days have stopped it as a belief of birth issues of children with sexual intercourse
