In the Bible, Job asks God to justify suffering. How does God answer? God shows him the majesty of Creation and Job is left speechless.
In the Brothers Karamazov, Ivan blames God for all the suffering inflicted on innocent children. How does his brother, the faithful Alyosha respond? He kisses him and Ivan is left speechless.
These stories suggest the answers we seek will not come to us as words or clever arguments. In fact, they might arrive only after all words and arguments have ceased.
This is not intellectual defeatism. It is a confession of the human condition. Marooned creatures we are, stranded in waters we do not comprehend.

From the Christian perspective, I think what they're saying here is that our attempts to intellectualize and understand the world are infinitely inferior to the immensity of Creation and God's plan. We simply cannot understand it all, and see the big picture as He does. Hence, we should just have trust and faith in our Creator, believing He knows what's best for us, as counterintuitive as some things may seem from our mortal perspective.

In the *_Garden of Eden_* (this World), when naked *_Adam & Eve_* (Humanity) are tempted;

And eat the apple (from the *_Tree of Knowledge), instantly thoughts_* arise in them to feel shame ie sin or suffering.

In Suchness, _thoughts come from knowledge, _ without which no thoughts can arise, hence no sins or sufferings induced.

Without a thought in Adam or Eve, their True Nature is - *_"I am what I am"_* or simply _"What is, is all that is"._

Eastern philosophies justify (or explain) suffering by invoking the mechanism of Karma and the process of Free Will (also attachments). Mankind has created its own suffering out of sheer ignorance and perfidy. Without Free Will this would not be possible. Our acts and choices determine our path and our destination, with some unforeseen intrigues, some unplanned upsets along the way.

The apostles are, as you said, “marooned in waters they do not comprehend”, as they are tossed about by a terrible storm.

They wake up the master (Christ) as we must do, and he says to to wind and the waves “peace, be still”….and the wind and the waves obey.
