TOP 10 BIGGEST DINOSAURS Ever!
No other creature on earth has struck so much awe and fear in us as much as the dinosaurs. Though they existed over 250 million years ago, we’ve recreated them in our films, museums and imprinted them in our memories. Dinosaurs vary considerably in size. Some were as tiny as a chicken and those as gigantic as stories of buildings. However, the process of identifying the biggest dinosaurs that ever lived isn’t as easy as you might think. They might have left fossils, some of which are still unearthed, but those found are incomplete skeletons that have to be put together by our very iconic and cool paleontologists. New species are still being found and we are here for it. I’m going to take you on a journey of the top ten biggest dinosaurs as per the prevailing state of research. Let’s be awed together, shall we?
10. Amphicoelias

Let me start off this list with Amphicoelias. Amphicoelias is a humongous herbivorous sauropod dinosaur that lived over 150 million years ago in North America. Scientists say that they’re about 25 m long. We see Amphicoelias as a contender for the biggest dinosaurs ever! However, with new dinosaur species being discovered all over the world, it can only be considered to be amongst the biggest. Amphicoelias is among those dinosaurs whose findings are incomplete or inconclusive due to fewer fossils found and then lost. Their description is conceived from comparing them with dinosaurs in the same family. In 1994, Gregory Paul estimated its size to be up to 60 m long! This was reevaluated by Ken Carpenter who provided a length of 58 m. Amphicoelias was moderately thin but its size made it massive. According to Carpenter, It could have weighed up to 122 tonnes. That’s impressive!
9. Sauroposeidon

Our next contender is the Sauroposeidon (The Lizard of Poseidon or Earthquake Lizard! ) Sauroposeidon is expressed as a super-sized dinosaur. It was described from the neck bones fossils discovered in Oklahoma. Sauroposeidon is estimated to be 20 meters long and weighed up to 60 tonnes! It lived over 125 million years ago. Sauroposeidon is one of the last GIGANTIC sauropods recognized from the Cretaceous period in North America. Sauroposeidon is named after a Greek god called Poseidon. I’m sure we all know that Poseidon is described as a deity of the sea and one that secured a domain over earthquakes. Regarding that, Sauroposeidon being so gigantic, it revered the thought of shaking the ground the way an earthquake would, whenever it would walk. That’s where the connection comes from.
8. Utahraptor

Just like its name, it was discovered in Utah, though not the only raptor in Utah! It actually came very close to be named the dinosaur of Utah! This North American dinosaur lived in the early cretaceous period. Utahraptor weighed an astronomic 1500 pounds and was over 20 feet long. Utahraptor was a profoundly built, bipedal, and ground-dwelling carnivorous predator. The gigantic, curving hind claws of Utahraptor were used to slash and gutter its prey and they measured almost a foot long! That’s awesome! For the dino-maniacs out there, you have to go check out the Raptor Red in case you haven’t. It’s an incredible book written by the iconic fossil hunter Robert Baker that gives the truest description of a dynamic Utahraptor and her family surviving in the unrelenting prehistoric wilderness! It's worth a read!.
7. Titanoceratops

Titanoceratops is a recently discovered dinosaur that’s commonly referred to as “titanic horned face”. If you haven’t heard of it then be my guest! Titanoceratops might have worn the crown long before its torosaurus and triceratops descendants. Titanoceratops had such an unbelievably huge ornate head! Scientists say that it was probably because of sexual selection! It’s deemed that males with conspicuous noggins were way attractive to the females. Crazy huh! Titanoceratops weighed a whopping 15,000 pounds!!! and had a tremendous 8-feet skull!!! Almost matching the size of Triceratops. They’re said to have lived about 74 million years ago in the Cretaceous period.
It seems like a prevailing rule for the stupendous dinosaurs, particularly of the Mesozoic Era to be identified as titanosaurs. Nevertheless, there were also duck-billed dinosaurs that were titanosaurs in size! So this had to feature on this list. The Magnapaulia was unearthed in North America and weighed a massive 25 tonnes and was 50 feet long! Without looking at its colossal bulk, Magnapaulia is considered to have run with its hind legs, ágressively chasing and pursuing its prey.
