That ended on such a downward note. I found it fascinating to see how innovative and resourceful Yokoi was, the man was a true genius. The concept of "lateral thinking of withered technology" so eloquently summarizes pragmatism and resourcefulness, it's a philosophy - it's clear to see he was a man of extreme talent from humble beginnings.

Genius that man was.
He made an object smaller than a calculator.
And it Survived a BLAST. TO THE FACE

I wonder what could have happened to the gaming scene if Gunpei wasn't taken by that tragic accident. :(

1:15 It's very important to show a picture in case someone forgot what a calculator looms like

Ahh yes, this is where I got my first degree on the Gameboy, I got my masters on the Gameboy color and eventually got my PhD on the GBA, good times indeed.

The Game Boy survived an explosion? Face it. The system's indestructible.

its so funny how people think Nintendo is horrible when without them not only would there not be so much of the things we call normal in games today but they were ultimately what inspired companies to enter the gaming world with their success

So, if it wasn't for a random guy in a train playing with his calculator, the gameboy wouldn't

Everyone is always talking about the gameboy surviving a bomb but they never care about the soldier that died

RIP American soldier😢

Don't even try breaking a gameboy, they are too strong to be broken.

(And if you break one you're just wasting money and precious gaming devices.)

4:09 NO. It was Hyundai who sold Nintendo games in behalf of Nintendo. Samsung sold Sega games and its gaming system. After Hyundai Electronics decided to discontinue selling Nontendo products a company named Daewon started to import games and the system directly from Nintendo of Japan, until Nintendo finally decided to enter the Korean market around 2007.

And I can't believe that no Korean actually pointed this out.

Rest in Peace Gunpei Yokoi, a true genius of the gaming and electronics industries.

I wonder why that first Virtual Boy design got scrapped. It looks like it would have been a lot less uncomfortable on the player's neck, and it actually looks cooler than the bipod design (imo at least). It wouldn't have solved any of the photosensitivity-related issues, of course.
