Fire At Dansteel Limited La Romaine

Fire officials are still on the scene of fire at Dansteel Limited in La Romaine.

Smoke can still be seen coming from the compound late this afternoon.

The fire is said to have start at around 10am on the Eastern side of the compound.

The cause of the blaze is still to be determined. However, employees who were on the compound today told us welding work as part of construction on that part of the building was being conducted.

Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Bikaw, who was on the scene earlier today, said there were some 60 employees on the compound when the fire started and they were all safe and accounted for.

Dansteel, a well established enterprise in South Trinidad, is a retailer and manufacturer of steel, steel products, building materials, tools, and safety, household and garden supplies.

I wonder if the building's fire suppression activated. Seems like a lot of damage.

There should have been more fire ladder trucks clearly you need more equipment and personal. The fire should have been under control and not allowed to spread, this should be an eye opener, more fire stations close to industrial and residential areas...
