I have always been a really good singer, but I could never hit those growls in songs I really love. I've always been so jealous of singers that can do that. Your minute and a half video is the best tutorial on this I've ever seen. Now, I can FINALLY do the growl when I sing Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera, thanks to YOU! Thank you SO MUCH for making this video! I am SO happy to FINALLY be able to do this, and I'm so proud of myself. I can't believe how easy it is and how I just couldn't figure it out all these years. I do want to let you know, there ARE indeed safe ways to growl, if it hurts in the beginning it’s probably not safe. I do death metal growls, and my current technique has never once lead to any pain, where as most others I try will. I know you’re probably not trying to do a deep guttural, but I would suggest learning a basic false chord and playing with it, that can add a lot of emotion and depth to a song, as well as preserving your voice

Don’t forget to polite growl clear your throat. Sounds like you’re doing the super harsh painful one to me. Keep it polite and light and you can do it for a long time.

thank you so much for these tips. I never understood that the sound I made was my natural growl. I just thought it was just pure bass but I absolutely love it. Thank you so much.

This is not a safe way to learn how to growl. While it's correct that this type of growling happens at the back of the mouth, clearing your throat is bad for your throat. It also shouldn't feel scratchy after doing it only a few times and you definitely shouldn't need to increase volume when you raise the pitch, whether growling or not. I love that this singer wants to help other singers but this particular advice is likely do more damage than good.
