I often use the Lydian chord as a substitute for C Major. I also use the Bb chord (Csus) as a substitute for C minor.

"Temptation Eyes" by The Grass Roots uses the Lydian in the chorus. Gives a feeling of uncertainty and anticipation.

A great tutorial- a single note is easy to recall #4 or b5- so minor b3 is sad and b5 is kinda sad too- I guess it hints at diminished chord partially-we could coin the term "Quarter diminished"

Thanks for including Ave Verum. It’s part of the choral repertoire where I sing bass (in addition to separate jazz piano lessons). yea thats a kind of cool thing to play with.... someone, I think Frank Gambale showed about taking the 145 and giving them a pedal tone from each of the scale tones and he would call that a mode.
