Instead of smashing, I'd say the most obvious differences between beginner, intermediate, and advanced badminton players is footwork.

The difference between intermediate and advanced is the position and angle of the shoulder when smashing. Intermediate one uses forearm and wrist, its powerful but it can create some sort of pain torsion on the wrist if done wrong. On the other hand, Aylex used full shoulder, forearm and finger rotation for the right smash, although he isnt smashing it too hard, he's only going easy.

Aylex can control his shots better, his smashes are also good quality. Its much steeper and he's definitely in control of his shots.

As a casual badminton player, advanced even if it doesn't seem as powerful as intermediate, in badminton powerful strikes can only take you so far till you start hurting and your wrists hurt, and legs and calves etc.. And I find it nice not to overwork feet and if you have the chance use less footwork as it could help with more difficult recieves or shots.

For those who didn’t see the difference, what he’s trying to say is that the difference between an intermediate and an advanced player is mostly in other areas apart from smashes. Since smashes look cooler, intermediate players improve in that area very much and lose out on other areas.

Beginner doesn't have the strength and right form
Advance has power but not the proper form and uses more energy
Intermediate, has power right form and giving the best shot with the lowest efforts
