Zone 7, I always plant my garlic in early April and harvest sometime around early November and they always do fine. However I live in an area where it is usually still somewhat warm for at least the first half of November.

I planted my garlic straight from the store in the spring and it is growing great. You don’t really need that cold period.

Planted mine mid Oct. It was cold . They have all sprouted and are several inches long.😊

We planned ours for 9 months. 🗝
Plant 1st month of autumn, in order for them to 'winter' (the 40days you mention)

So funny, I was just in process of looking up when would be too late to plant garlic when I received your notification!
I havnt planted mine yet-may go ahead and give it a try. I have containers in my plant shed that the soil isn’t frozen. How deep should the container be?

Just planted mine yesterday with a thick leaf covered. After a night of 22 degrees the soil has not frozen

I live in Malaysia we live on a equator line we never get winter is just rain and sun and durian season

We can sow it in the spring here too.. we do 2 planting. Spring and autumn
