Comparing Fractions Using Common Denominators - [4-6-7]

Показать описание

In this lesson, you will learn how to compare two fractions without drawing pictures or diagrams. We will instead get a common denominator and express each fraction in terms of this new denominator. Once we do this, we can look at the numerators of the two fractions in order to determine which fraction is larger or smaller. Finding the common denominator is not only useful for comparing fractions, but it is also used when we learn to add and subtract fractions in later lessons.

I think this method also works comparing fractions
1/2 ? 1/4
Convert both the fractions to a whole numbers by multiplying lcd of denominators
i.e 4×1/2 ? 4×1/4
2 ? 1
2>1
So first fraction is bigger than second.

Very nice presentation but I am wondering what something that is pretty obvious by just looking at the fractions is warrant things 24 minute explanation and solving it in what I consider to be pretty obvious
