It wasnt the tripod moving, it was the sun and moon moving in the sky caude by earths rotation.

It is not the camera that was moving... it was the sun! It moves 15 degres an hour in the sky

Some advice. You couldn't keep the shot lined up because of the rotation of the earth. If you wanna try to counteract that, you'll want to put a gimbal on the tripod, and make its axis of rotation parallel to the axis of the Earth.

If you're willing to splurge, you can get one that automatically rotates to keep your telescope/camera pointed at what you want to see. Otherwise, it just makes it a heck of a lot easier to manually keep your subject in frame.

The Earth, Moon & Sun too, are all moving, and each in a predictable manner.
Therefore, both solar & lunar eclipse events are calculated well in advance...

I made the drive with some friends to the path of totality, it was more amazing than i ever thought it would be. An entire day of riding in the car was worth it for the few minutes of seeing the sun completely blocked out by the moon. I literally said holy s*** as it happened.

I had actually seen it that day from where i was, in person. I was just outside of troy ny at the time, and, according to my grandfather's friend, we were gping to see a 97% totality 🙃. I looked up with the glasses to notice the fact that it was just barely starting.😊

Did he say he will have to wait till 2024😂 In my area you couldn't see anything unfortunately. It was cloudy plus I don't believe we live in the area which it passed over.

Next total eclipse visible in Maine wont be until 2079! Ill be nearly 91 years old at that point.
