THIS VIDEO JUST SAVED MY LIFE AND STOPPED ME FROM HAVING TO BUY A NEW LAPTOP. So grateful!!! This is insane, I have been struggling for two years as a young design freelancer with my laptop's horrifically slow and laggy performance. I was about to resignedly start looking for new laptops, didn't want to bite the financial cost, but decided to check youtube to see if there were any possible solutions...even to make my life with the program a little more bearable while I waited on the new laptop order. But now, after implementing these tips, Photoshop is literally BUTTERY smooth like you said. My computer feels like an entire different machine. And the fixes were so simple too! You are the man!!! You just saved me time, money, sooo much frustration – thank you so much for your expertise and easy tips. I'm freaking out right now honestly!! I never comment on things, either. But I just had to say a huge thank you. THANK YOU 😁🎉

The best tutorial out there. No stupid music in the background and understandable. Thank you for taking the time to share these valuable tips.

I think the copy/paste was my favorite. Also resetting preferences. TY

The final tip helped me! I lost a couple of buttons in photoshop, the history button, to show what steps I had just done, and I lost a tool on the left because I right clicked on it, opening other options and couldn’t remember where it was. So I used the reset, and, boom, it’s all back to normal. Thank you.

Hi Colin, thanks for this. Did notice that in latest release of PS that some info was no longer valid/changed: Tip1 Disable Home screen now replaced with an "Auto Show Home Screen". Tip 6 Legacy Compositing has been removed and is no longer available

Great tutorial, Colin! I'm a keyboard shortcut kind of guy, but I hadn't considered what using the Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V was doing to my clipboard size. I will definitly start using the method you suggested. Thanks.

Most of the stuff you were talking in this video is very useful to me. I spend lots of time on photoshop and its great to learn new things about how to run it in best way possible. I actually will go today to buy an external ssd drive for scratch disc. Cheerio.

At TS 7:43 you talk about resetting preferences, will you lose actions you may have created? Also I created a PSD for postcards, have many saved layers to click on or off depending on the specific card size and fonts, one template for many types of cards in different groups. Would I lose those layers if I reset the preferences? Thanks for sharing your videos are very informative and helpful.

Great Video, very detailed and good sound thank you so much. Please I will like to know how you make the long video size very small to about 17MB without losing quality

Thank you. Photoshop 2021 has not become faster than any predecessor, and some of the fields in Preferences are changed or missing relative to your 2019 (Mac) version. For example in Preferences->General, the option "Disable the Home Screen" has been replaced with "Auto show the Home Screen" and it actually works the same way when untagged. Also under ->Performance, the Legacy Compositing option has been removed and apparently replaced. The head line is now - Description. The ->Scratch Disk feature to prioritize the scratch disks - I didn't know about - so that one was my favorite.
Holding down Shift-Alt-Ctrl on my PC doesn't give me the option to Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File as shown in your example. In stead I get the (new installation) dialog "Do you allow this app to make changes on your device" and then when confirmed I get the (Shift at start) option to discard third party plug-ins. I guess this sequence works the same way.

In Windows, Preferences is under the Edit Menu. I changed my memory setting to 75%, I also use and have other programs running as well. These are all good tips.

Didn't know about the scratch discs. Have it set up now to give preference to a spare 1TB SSD that I wasn't otherwise using. Learned a couple of other things as well. Thanks.

Hey great video! Most hard-core users probably already know most of these, but for us casual users (I use Lightroom for 95% of my editing) it was a real benefit! I LOVE the ability to use multiple/alternative scratch disks... That might be my favorite tip. Also, the home screen was really bugging me so I'm glad I nixed that. Thanks!

Thanks Colin. I will try these tips. I have stopped using PS altogether because my computer (Mac) just stops running.

This was a GREAT tutorial! With the new Photoshop CC update, I lost the ability to process 400 images at once, PS crashed on image number 150 consistently and I had to restart. So, what fixed that? Your tip on disabling the gpu. When I did that, I'm back to loading and working with 400 images at a time. BUT, I did not figure out what graphics processor setting was the culprit, so I'll be working on that later. That single tip saved me hours today. What's the hottest running graphics card for windows 10 that is well matched to Adobe CC Suite? Nvidia Quadro K4000 is what I'm currently running. Thanks!
