With the cost of hydrogen at roughly $16 a gallon equivalency to gasoline it’s hard to justify a hydrogen card

I am a fan of alternative fuels. The issue with hydrogen is currently the fueling stations cost 1, 000, 000.00 per pump. Not the full station its per pump. Currently impractical.

It's a non starter unless they get the suppliers in place. Cousin had a Mirai and there were only two stations within thirty miles in Southern California. Great car, no way to go far like regular cars.

The cars are easy enough to build but the hydrogen is the challenge. Some hydrogen is actually refined from petroleum and that is expensive and dirty. But some is separated from water using electricity but it takes a lot of electricity so that is also expensive. I have been reading about new technology for that and this will be the key to making these cars viable.

So all is great until winter comes and the road turns into a sheet of ice

Not really since the cost of the fuel has skyrocketed. It now costs over $200 to fill up the tank of a Mirai

Thanks for stating the pluses and Minuses. Google shows only 2 charging stations in the State of Washington.

It’s all good, but where is the infrastructure? It’s cool if we have the technology but no way to fuel it without traveling a long way. Also still uses lubricants right? So still maintenance costs.

That's just great, I'm waiting to one of these cars blows up. It's gonna take out a few city blocks, isn't that lovely? Let's just hope they keep them in the city's only.

I saw that a Mirai was for sale in Phoenix. Too bad there are no hydrogen refuel stations in the city or state

Car industry seemed to be doing a good job of destroying themselves

The reason hydrogen hasn't taken off is that it's extremely costly and difficult to harness and store.

This video does an 180 at the end and gives some explanations why H2 won't be an alternative for some time.

Hydrogen FCEVs are really just electric cars with a hugely inefficient mechanism for refuelling them. BEVs are safer, have an existing charging network and can typically be charged at home from solar.

Hydrogen ICE cars are even more inefficient, noisy, still cause Nitrous oxide pollution, have gazillions of moving parts, etc etc.

Why use hydrogen?

Well theoretically if it works, imagine not only cars but our homes too

More expensive, more complicated and NO refueling stations ! Yea sign me up ! 😂😂😂

Honda had Clarity hydrogen EVs for years. They just dumped the Clarity line (PHEV, EV & Hydrogen) a couple of years ago. They couldn't make it work. How is this different?

Would want more mainstream news on this

My only observation driving behind one of these this last year is that they splat water under your car if you’re following them. I was pretty far back, and my wipers kept going off. I could think of a dozen ways to get rid of water without having it just drip out the back. Once in a while, we see these in town. Just like the EV cars. The initial infrastructure to keep them going is a long ways away.

There's no hydrogen infrastructure set up in many countries, so this will sell well in Japan but not in Europe or the US eg where petrol (aka gas) stations aren't kitted out to store hydrogen fuel.
