It was an extraordinary scene at the White House Thursday. Chief of staff John Kelly, whose son was killed in Afghanistan, defended President Trump's handling of a condolence call to the widow of a fallen soldier. The retired general blasted the congresswoman who had criticized the president.

Look, he was told what to say by a military official that has done this many times. He knew the risks when he went to battle, and he did this to protect our freedom. This looks like an orchestrated event. They knew he was going to make the call, and they were listening for anything that could be used against him. Is spying kosher or listening to other's (the president of the United States) phone calls? The fallen hero did know the risks when he joined the military, and this was not inappropriate to say "of course, " unless the one saying it is not in "your" political party I believe the focus should be on the fallen absolute hero (s) and not something that was meant as a nice token that was taken very wrong. If you sign up for war, you know that you are risking your life. And once again, the president was told what to say from a military official. United we stand and divided one falls.
