Fun Fact: Though the Allied command knew about the Me 262 due to espionage and stolen plans, they didn't tell their flight crews about the jet plane, because it was believed it would frighten them enough that they would refuse to fly. So, when bomber crews started reporting seeing a strange German fighter that was somehow flying without a propeller, the standard response for a time was to quietly remove the person, or entire crew who had witnessed the plane, and send them home; chalking it up to 'battle fatigue'. After a while, once the capabilities of the 262 were known, word was filtered down to the pilots and crew, and the practice of sending them home for sighting the plane, was removed.

So yes, for a time, the standard practice was to completely gaslight crews who had seen the plane.
